Largest EMC infrastructure in Switzerland
The new Test Center for Electromagnetic Compatibility will be the largest EMC infrastructure in Switzerland. The new facility will consist of two halls in which test objects can be tested for their electromagnetic compatibility in accordance with the latest technology standards. Thanks to state-of-the-art equipment and improved ergonomics, plans are in place to increase the level of automation in the large EMC absorber hall and to support testing of specimens weighing up to 75 tons.
In addition, armasuisse Science and Technology (armasuisse S+T), the technology center of the DDPS, is investing in an area of the new building and strengthening its partnership with RUAG: The smaller hall operated by armasuisse S+T is used for antenna measurements, but will also allow for EMC tests, which will be performed by RUAG. A project that enables flexible processes for RUAG and armasuisse S+T and optimally promotes collaborative exchange.
The new infrastructure will ensure RUAG's core competence in EMC with a focus on military projects in the long term and will enable even greater flexibility in project execution, as testing will no longer have to be outsourced to third parties. Sustainable management of the civilian market in EMC testing also contributes to increasing sales on the third market.
Universal transmission test bench strengthens MRO core competencies
With the construction of a universal transmission test bench, RUAG is also consolidating core competencies in the area of maintenance, repair and overhaul of military transmissions, thus following the strategic direction of the owner.
The facility, with its modular adaptation concept and a new electric drive in testing military transmission applications, will be a world leader and set new standards. By eliminating combustion engines as drive units, RUAG is helping to reduce noise and exhaust emissions. RUAG is leading the project, while transmission manufacturer RENK AG and its subsidiary RENK Test Systeme are developing and qualifying the test bench.
