Create forward-thinking hardware solutions as a design engineer
Do you have technical talent? With us, you will learn how to create forward-thinking hardware solutions. Design engineers develop, model and design mechanical devices, machine and apparatus components - from aircraft parts to special tools. Drawing is carried out on the computer using modern 3D CAD software.
If you are interested in drawing and developing various components of machines, apparatus and everyday objects, then an apprenticeship at RUAG is right for you. Our design engineers draw on the computer using modern 3D CAD software. In doing so, they create new developments or carry out modification work on existing equipment.
Key points of your apprenticeship at RUAG
Design engineer EFZ [Swiss certificate of competence]
Design engineers work closely with specialists such as engineers in all phases of the design process and jointly realize a concept. In this phase, they rely on functional specifications, which contain the most important tasks relating to function, production, quality and costs. As you can see, this profession enables you to create forward-looking hardware solutions.
During the concept phase, design engineers discuss various options for fulfilling customer wishes, technical requirements and standards. They usually sketch the first drafts by hand. If a design is pursued further, they create three-dimensional construction drawings on the computer using CAD programs.
On the plans, design engineers record geometric shapes, dimensions and tolerances as well as information on surface finishes and materials. Based on these documents, a prototype is then created and if it fulfills the requirements, final drawings, technical documents as well as parts lists for series production follow. Working at RUAG is therefore extremely varied.
