Duration

Your apprenticeship will last four years. During this time, you will learn everything you need to know to become a licensed electrician.

Skills

To qualify for this apprenticeship, you must have a strong command of geometry, mathematics and physics. You must also be handy, skilled at abstract logical thinking and have a basic technical understanding. In addition, you work carefully and take on responsibility. Finally, you are an open as well as communicative person and a team player.

Future opportunities

After your apprenticeship as a licensed electrician, you can take training courses offered by EIT.swiss, professional associations, vocational schools or technical institutes. You can also further develop your skills by completing shortened apprenticeships, specialization courses or an (advanced) federal professional examination, or you can acquire a degree at a university of applied sciences, such as a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.

Licensed electrician EFZ (Federal VET Diploma)

Licensed electricians carry out a variety of installation, assembly and repair work. They work with both traditional tools such as screwdrivers, wire strippers and voltage detectors, as well as with modern measuring equipment and specialized power tools. When laying cables and conduits, the utmost precision is required to ensure that all connections are correct and reliable. Likewise, compliance with safety regulations and standards is a central part of their work. 

The work is often carried out in a team, with each person taking on important tasks to guarantee that the entire project runs smoothly. 

Licensed electricians plan their work steps precisely and make sure that safety requirements are always met. In doing so, they play a key role in ensuring that every electrical system works safely and efficiently
